Traditional pubs the Engine Inn at Walbottle and the Jingling Gate, two miles away, serve a range of British and international cuisines.

The Metrocentre in Gateshead is home to a number of family friendly restaurants, as well as to bars, cafés, and entertainment venues, including a multi-screen cinema, a bowling alley, climbing activity centre and adventure golf.

A number of well-regarded schools can be found within the local area. For younger children these include Walbottle Village Primary School and Nursery, St Cuthbert’s RC Primary, Knop Law and St John Vianney RC primary schools. Secondary education providers include Studio West, Ponteland Community High School and Sacred Heart Catholic High School (girls). Further and higher education is provided by Northumberland College at Kirkley Hall, Newcastle College, Northumbria University and Newcastle University.

Abbey Heights is conveniently located for commuters, with major roads and public bus routes easily accessible. The A69 for Hexham and Carlisle, and the A1 for Gateshead, Durham and York, can both be reached within a few minutes by car. Newcastle city centre is around 35 minutes’ away by bus and 15 minutes by car. Bank Foot Metro station is 10 minutes’ drive away for travel to the city centre, Gateshead and Sunderland, while mainline train services operate from Newcastle Central Station. Newcastle Airport is six miles from the development.
