Pocklington is a thriving market town in East Riding, set on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds and to the east of York. Wellington Road is situated just off the A1079 York Road.
Pocklington is a bustling market town, boasting many retail opportunities, from high-street and brand name stores and supermarkets, to a range of independent specialist retailers. Pocklington is a historic market town with a rich history to be explored. The attractive town centre boasts a 15th century Church Tower and many quaint, old buildings. Pocklington also has its own working town crier, of which there are only 200 in the UK. The town is also ideally placed for outdoor pursuits and is very popular with cyclists, with Wilberforce Way and White Rose Cycle Route running through the town. There are also several popular walks running around Pocklington and through to the surrounding Yorkshire countryside, including the Pocklington Circuit, North Wolds Walk, Wilberforce Way and the Yorkshire Wolds Way.
Wellington Grange is a short drive from Burnby Hall Gardens. This popular visitor attraction boasts beautiful gardens, lakes and the largest collection of Water Lilies in a natural setting in Europe, while Pocklington Canal, named as one of the top 10 places for waterside wildlife in Britain, is approximately 15 minutes’ drive away.
There are excellent sporting facilities in Pocklington, including nearby KP Golf Club. Pocklington also has gliding, running and rugby clubs and a leisure centre – East Riding Leisure Francis Scaife.
Families are well catered for, with a selection of well-regarded schools nearby, including Warter Church of England Primary School - an 11-minute drive from Wellington Grange - and St. Mary and St Joseph Primary School, which is a two-minute drive, or an 11-minute walk from home.
Pocklington Independent School is four minutes away by car, serving children aged five to 18. This traditional school was founded in 1514 and includes a range of first-class sports facilities, spanning 21 acres of grounds with an indoor swimming pool.
For older students, Woldgate College and Sixth Form is around a 20-minute walk, or a four-minute drive away and serves 11 to 18 year-olds. For higher education, the University of York is around a 22-minute drive from the development.
