About the area

Leisure and entertainment

Located on the Western edge of Thirsk, Furlong Park has a variety of entertainment and leisure options available. Just a 10-minute walk from the development is Thirsk Racecourse, which hosts a variety of racing and live music events throughout the year.

Less than five miles away from Furlong Park is the Thirsk Birds of Prey Centre, where visitors can view more than 70 different birds, including a large collection of eagles. In addition, the centre also offers the chance to handle smaller birds, right after each scheduled flying display.

Just over a 10-minute drive from the development is the North Yorkshire Moors, which is an area of natural beauty that covers more than 550 square miles of land, and is ideal for dog walking and bird watching. Plus, just a little further into the national park, roughly 10 miles from the development, is Sutton Bank National Park Centre, which is a great location for cycling. It is also a Dark Sky Discovery site, too, one of only three in the North Yorkshire Moors.

Shopping and dining

Thirsk offers a good selection of amenities, with a variety of independent shops within the local vicinity. For day-to-day essentials, there is a large supermarket within a two-minute drive of the development, and there’s an open-air market in the Market Square, around a mile from Furlong Park, which is open every Monday and Saturday.

There is also a wealth of shops and stores to browse in the locale of the medieval market square – where there are cafes, bakers, florists, and more all tucked away in the alleys and yards around the town. Furthermore, residents will discover a number of restaurants within Thirsk, too, including Thai Bistros and Bangladeshi eateries – which are around one mile from the development.

For commuters, Furlong Park is ideally situated, as there is a range of quality transport connections on offer. Thirsk Train Station is a six-minute walk from the development and offers trains to York, around a 15-minute trip, Middlesbrough, roughly a 40-minute journey, and London, a two-hour-and-30-minute ride.

There are plenty of major roads within a short drive of Furlong Park, with the A19 just a seven-minute drive and the A1 just six miles away. These excellent road links provide commuters with the opportunity to travel to York, around 45 minutes’ drive, Middlesbrough, about 35 miles away, and Leeds, which is just over a 50-minute drive.

These new homes in Thirsk are well-served by a number of options for schools. All Saints RC Primary School is around a four-minute drive from the development, Sowerby Community Primary Academy is a 22-minute walk, and Carlton Miniott Primary Academy is just over a mile away.

For older students, Thirsk School and Sixth Form College is roughly five minutes’ drive from Furlong Park.
