Shopping and dining

Residents at Renaissance are just a 10-minute drive, or a few minutes by train from Reading town centre, which presents a variety of retail and dining opportunities for all tastes.

Located on the riverside, The Oracle shopping centre incorporates an array of high street stores, alongside several well-known cafés and restaurant chains. Broad Street, Reading’s pedestrianised shopping precinct, is home to many independent shops and food and drink outlets in addition to a large indoor mall.

The culinary scene in Reading boasts many interesting and unique eateries; in the town centre, these include Thames Lido, a refurbished outdoor pool overlooked by a tapas bar and restaurant; Forbury’s, which specialises in modern European cooking and boasts an extensive wine menu, and Valpy Street Bar and Bistro, offering French cuisine in an intimate setting.

Reading also benefits from a Michelin-starred restaurant, L’Ortolan, which has a choice of à la carte and tasting menus crafted with locally-grown and seasonal produce. L’Ortolan is situated in Shinfield, 20 minutes’ drive from Renaissance.

Nearer to home, a large supermarket lies just a short walk away from the development, while Reading Retail Park has a number of stores and can be reached in a few minutes by car.

Leisure and entertainment

Reading benefits from a wealth of leisure and entertainment opportunities, with many amenities situated near to Renaissance.

Three golf courses – Calcot Park Golf Course, Reading Golf Club and Caversham Heath Golf Club – are located within a 15-minute drive of the development. Madejski Stadium, the home ground of Reading FC and London Irish rugby union club, lies about four miles away; the stadium also incorporates a popular live music venue and restaurant, The Jazz Café.

A number of museums and cultural venues can be found in Reading town centre, including the ruins of Reading Abbey, and Reading Museum, which lists a full-size replica of the Bayeux Tapestry among its exhibits. The Hexagon theatre and arts venue presents a varied programme of events such as music, comedy, dance and drama performances, while The Oracle shopping centre has a multiplex cinema.

The town is also renowned for hosting Reading Festival, which takes place each year over the August Bank Holiday weekend and boasts a diverse line-up of major music artists, attracting thousands of visitors.

Two miles from Renaissance, Prospect Park, the town’s largest open space, offers a variety of family-friendly attractions including a mini steam train, adventure playground and sports facilities. The development is also a short drive from the outskirts of the picturesque Berkshire Downs, part of the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Education

Families at Renaissance will find several well-regarded primary and secondary schools situated within easy reach. Wilson Primary School can be reached on foot in around 10 minutes, while Oxford Road Community School and All Saints Junior School are both located about five minutes’ drive away. An independent education for boys aged 3 to 11 is provided at St Edward’s Prep, located approximately a mile from the development.

Older students are served by The Wren School, less than a 10-minute drive away, and Kendrick School, two miles from Renaissance.

For those wishing to pursue further or higher education, both Reading College and University of Reading are situated on the outskirts of the town centre. 

Transport

The A33, which connects to the M4 for London, can be reached in five minutes’ drive from Renaissance.

The nearest railway station to the development is Reading West, situated less than a mile away; Reading railway station, a 10-minute drive away, is a major hub which provides direct services to destinations including Oxford, London Paddington, London Waterloo and Manchester Piccadilly. The journey time to London Paddington is around half an hour.

Heathrow, the UK’s busiest airport, is approximately 45 minutes’ drive from the development and offers hundreds of domestic and international flights per day.
