Melksham lies about eight miles south of Chippenham, within the boundaries of Wiltshire, and enjoys a semi-rural setting. From the A350, Bowood View is around a minutes’ drive away.

A variety of sports facilities can be found in the area surrounding Bowood View. These include the Christie Miller Sports Centre; the Melksham Blue Pool, a public swimming pool, and the Wiltshire School of Gymnastics.

Whitley Golf Club, and West Wilts Equestrian Centre are around three miles away. Trowbridge Rugby Football Club can be reached in about five minutes by car.

Melksham Assembly Hall, in the town centre, regularly hosts live events and movie screenings. Trowbridge has a multiplex cinema, 15 minutes’ drive from Melksham, while Devises, seven miles away, has an independent cinema constructed in the Art Deco style.

For days out, many picturesque locations are within easy reach. The South Cotswolds lies around 10 miles to the west of Melksham, while the North Wessex Downs, an extensive Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty which incorporates historic sites such as Avebury henge and stone circles, is to the east..

The Mendip Hills, renowned for their outdoor sports opportunities including mountain biking, kayaking and climbing, are about an hour’s drive from Bowood View, as is the coastal town of Portishead, which has a number of visitor attractions including a modern marina and an open-air swimming pool.

Shopping and dining

Several supermarkets are located within a 5-minute drive of the development, and a selection of national stores can be found in Melksham town centre. Brookside Retail Park and Chippenham Retail Park are both less than 20 minutes’ drive away. A country pub, The New Inn, is just a minute’s walk from Bowood View and serves a traditional food menu alongside Sunday lunches and draught beers.

Further afield, a more varied shopping experience is provided in central Chippenham and Bath. In Chippenham, an array of well-known retailers, as well as independent local shops are situated along its High Street precinct, while Bath, a major retail hub in the region, boasts a diversity of stores and boutiques. The SouthGate complex has more than 50 shops, while visitors can find a collection of designer brands on Milson Street. The Artisan Quarter, the informal name given to the London Road and Walcot areas of the town, presents an eclectic choice of independent and vintage shops.

Situated around a 30-minute drive from these new homes in Melksham is Lucknam Park hotel, home to the Michelin-starred Restaurant Hywel Jones. Dishes are created using locally-sourced ingredients and herbs from the kitchen garden, and can be ordered à la carte, or as a tasting menu experience.

Education

A number of primary and secondary schools are located in the area surrounding Bowood View. For residents with younger children, schools include Aloeric Primary School, and Forest and Sandridge CE Primary, both around five minutes away by car.

Secondary age students are served by the Abbeyfield School, St Augustine’s Catholic College, The Clarendon Academy and Devises School, all of which are located within a 20-minute drive of the development.

Further education courses and apprenticeships are offered at Wiltshire College, which has four campuses in the county; the nearest campus to these new homes in Melksham is Lackham, approximately six miles away, or 15 minutes’ drive. For those wishing to pursue higher education, the University of Bath is 12 miles from Melksham. The University of Bristol and University of the West of England are both around a 50-minute drive away.

Transport

For professionals working locally and across the region, Bowood View is half a mile from the A350, which gives access to Chippenham in about 20 minutes. This road also connects to the A365 for Bath, approximately 35 minutes from Melksham, and to the M4 for Bristol and Swindon, both less than an hour’s drive away.

Bus stops for local and regional bus services can be found a short walk from the development.

Melksham railway station, around a 5-minute drive away, operates direct services to Swindon. From there, the journey to Bristol Temple Meads takes 45 minutes, and to London Paddington, about an hour.

For air travel, the closest airport is Bristol, which can be reached in around an hour and 15 minutes by car.
