Ottermead at Jameson Manor is situated one mile from Ponteland village centre, and 10 minutes’ drive from both the A1 and the A69. Newcastle city centre is nine miles away and can be reached in around 20 minutes by car.

There are a number of well-regarded schools locally. For younger children these include Richard Coates CE and Darras Hall primary schools. Ponteland High School, two miles away, caters for students aged 11 – 18, as does Studio West and Sacred Heart Catholic High School (girls) both around eight miles away.

Newcastle Sixth Form College offers a wide selection of A levels and the neighbouring Newcastle College provides a more vocational programme of apprenticeships, further and higher education courses, and professional studies. Kirkley Hall, part of Northumbria College, is just two miles from away and provides a range of land and animal care courses.

Ponteland town centre has several supermarkets and a range of independent shops, while Kingston Park, 10 minutes’ drive away, is home to further supermarkets, fashion and lifestyle stores.

Newcastle city centre is 20 minutes away by car away and is celebrated for its myriad department and chain stores, boutiques and independent retailers throughout the main commercial areas of Eldon Square, Northumberland Street and Grainger Town. The Metrocentre, 11 miles away in Gateshead, is one of the largest shopping centres in the country, with several hundred stores, as well as many cafés and restaurants, a multi-screen cinema and a bowling alley.

Ponteland Leisure Centre, five minutes’ drive from Ottermead, has a range of sports facilities, including a swimming pool, gym, sports hall and pitches. A wide variety of classes are on offer, from fitness and zumba to archery. Ponteland Park is situated in the town centre and covers around 18 acres. It is popular with families, dog walkers and runners, and is the venue for many local events.  

A number of traditional pubs, wine bars, cafés and restaurants are located in the town, catering to a variety of tastes and cuisines. Just four miles from the development, Horton Grange Country House Hotel at Berwick Hill offers afternoon tea, casual and à la carte dining in elegant surroundings. Slightly further afield, Newcastle boasts many popular restaurants – including the Michelin-starred House of Tides – as well a multitude of wine bars, traditional pubs and cafes. Entertainment venues include the Theatre Royal, the Tyne Theatre & Opera House, City Hall, the Utilita Arena, and across the river, Sage Gateshead.

Major roads easily accessible from the development include the A696, the A69 and the A1. Local buses connect the development with Kirkley Hall, Ponteland centre and Newcastle. The nearest train station is Callerton Parkway for Metro services to Newcastle city centre, Gateshead and Sunderland, while mainline train services run from Newcastle Central Station to a variety of destinations including Edinburgh, Glasgow, Durham, York, Doncaster and London. Newcastle International Airport is three miles away via the A696.
