Hardwicke is a small village to the south of the historic cathedral city of Gloucester. From junction 12 of the M5, Springfields is about five minutes’ drive away.

Sports and leisure

In the area around Springfields at Hunts Grove there are a number of sports facilities, covering a wide choice of activities for all ages. The Waterwells Sports Centre, which has a sports hall, artificial grass pitches and is the home stadium of the Quedgeley Wanderers Football Club, is a short walk from home. The Gloucester Ski and Snowboard Centre is five miles from the development, and an outdoor bike park, Flyup 417, is around 20 minutes’ drive away.

A multiplex cinema is located at the Gloucester Quays shopping outlet, just outside the city centre. Also in central Gloucester is the Guildhall, an independent venue that regularly hosts music, comedy and theatre performances, as well as film screenings.

The city’s history and impressive architecture, such as the ornate Gloucester Cathedral, have made it a popular destination for visitors. There are several museums including the Jet Age Museum, and the National Waterways Museum, which offers boat trips along the Gloucester Sharpness Canal. The rural Cotswolds are a short drive from Hardwicke, and the picturesque Cotswold Commons and Beechwoods National Nature Reserve can be reached by car in around 20 minutes. For outdoor pursuits including mountain biking, hiking and canoeing, the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean are less than an hour’s drive away.

Shopping and dining

For everyday grocery shopping, there are several supermarkets within a five-minute drive of Springfields. A small retail park, The Olympus Centre, is less than two miles from the development and provides an out-of-town retail experience alongside a selection of casual restaurants.

A variety of high-street stores, specialist and designer boutiques can be found in Gloucester. Well-known retailers are focused around the city centre and in the Eastgate and King’s Walk shopping malls, while the Cathedral Quarter has a variety of independent shops.

Gloucester also offers a broad dining choice which includes an array of independent eateries, many of which celebrate the regional produce of the Cotswolds; The Barge Restaurant, a family-run establishment serving traditional British pub fare, is at the Gloucester Docks, as is Tank, a pub serving locally-sourced food and beer brewed at the Gloucester Brewery. A range of bars and chain restaurants are also situated within the Gloucester Quays complex, and many occupy a waterfront location on the docks, offering opportunities to enjoy alfresco dining.

Education

There are a number of well-regarded schools situated near these new homes in Hardwicke. For primary aged students these include Waterwells Primary Academy, which is less than a mile from Springfields at Hunts Grove. Hardwicke Parochial Academy and Field Court Junior School are both a 10-minute drive away.

Secondary aged students in the area are served by Severn Vale School, two miles from home, and The Crypt School, which can be reached by car in around 10 minutes. The notable Wynstones School, which provides independent education for pupils aged 3-19, is located in Whaddon, around four miles from the development.

For further education, Gloucestershire College offers a variety of full and part time vocational and academic courses, as well as apprenticeships. The main campus is situated in Gloucester city centre, five miles from Hardwicke village.

The University of Gloucestershire has four campuses in Gloucester and Cheltenham, and a wide choice of undergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees, in addition to professional courses. All of the campuses are easily accessible from Hardwicke by car or local public transport.

Transport

Springfields at Hunts Grove is well-situated for travel into Gloucester, or for commuting further afield. The A38 for Gloucester is less than a mile from the development, and the M5 for Bristol, Worcester and Birmingham is a five-minute drive away.

Local and regional bus services operate in the area surrounding the development. The closest railway station is Gloucester, which is just over five miles away in the city centre and offers direct services to destinations including London Paddington, Nottingham, and Cardiff Central. Also within reach of the development is Stonehouse railway station, around six miles away. Birmingham Airport is just over an hour’s drive from Hardwicke via the M5.
