Around 10 minutes away by car, the Celtic Manor Resort incorporates several upmarket dining choices, including a steakhouse, an international buffet and a pan-Asian restaurant with a cocktail lounge.

Chepstow, less than 10 miles from Greystone Meadows, is renowned for the quality of its independent restaurants. Mint and Mustard provides a South Indian fine dining experience, while The Riverside Wine Bar occupies an enviable location beside the River Wye, and serves an extensive menu of tapas alongside fresh, Mediterranean-inspired seafood and meat dishes.

Approximately 35 minutes’ drive away, the major commercial hub of Bristol provides a choice of several shopping districts and indoor malls; Cabot Circus houses prominent retailers such as Harvey Nichols department store in addition to a host of upmarket and high street brands, whereas Gloucester Road and Stokes Croft are renowned for their array of independent shops.

Bristol also boasts a reputation for its high standard of local restaurants, with a variety of fine dining eateries located in the city centre. These include Casamia, which holds a Michelin star and serves seasonal tasting menus, and Adelina Yard, a contemporary European restaurant offering dishes prepared with regionally-sourced ingredients. Other notable restaurants include The Ox, a stylish steakhouse located in the basement vaults of a former bank, and Lido, which overlooks a restored Victorian outdoor swimming pool and provides an assortment of Middle Eastern-inspired dishes cooked in the wood-fired oven.

Leisure and entertainment

Families at Greystone Meadows can enjoy visits to Caldicot Castle, just a few miles away, which has been faithfully restored and is set within an extensive country park. Also nearby are Dewstow Gardens and Grottoes, which offer fascinating walks through landscaped gardens and underground tunnels that were buried after World War II and only recently rediscovered.

Less than 15 minutes’ drive from Undy, the five star Celtic Manor Resort provides three championship-standard golf courses, in addition to a golf academy and floodlit driving range. Having hosted the 2010 Ryder Cup, the resort continues to hold high-profile golf tournaments in addition to other events such as polo, motoring shows and music and dance performances; within the complex there are also two health clubs with gym equipment, fitness classes and swimming pools, and a spa.

Newport provides a choice of entertainment in its city centre, including a museum and gallery, a multiplex cinema and a large theatre and arts centre, The Riverfront; also in the centre is Newport Stadium, the home ground of Newport City FC.

Further afield, the southern edge of the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty can be reached in approximately 20 minutes by car. Many scenic walking and cycling routes through the Wye Valley start from Chepstow, itself an historic market town with a stone-built castle, and racecourse that hosts the Welsh Grand National.
