The Avenue is located in Bryn, Ashton-in-Makerfield, and lies about four miles south of Wigan. From junction 25 of the M6, the development is around two miles away.

Sports and leisure

Ashton-in-Makerfield offers an interesting variety of sports and leisure attractions. About a 15-minute walk from The Avenue is Three Sisters Recreation Area, which benefits from countryside trails for walking, running and cycling, a boating lake and a bird feeding station; the area also incorporates Three Sisters Race Circuit, an outdoor karting track with a varied schedule of car and motorbike racing events.

Ashton Leisure Centre provides a swimming pool, gym and a range of fitness classes, and is a short drive away, as is Brocstedes Park, the home stadium of Ashton Athletic FC. Haydock Park Racecourse, two miles from the development, holds regular horse racing fixtures as well as live performances from acclaimed bands and artists.

Shopping and entertainment

A selection of local shops, and a traditional pub are situated within walking distance of these new homes in Ashton-in-Makerfield. A broader choice of retailers, in addition to a supermarket and a number of casual restaurants, can be found at Marus Bridge Retail Park, five minutes’ drive away.

Wigan town centre offers high-street and independent shopping, and dining to suit most tastes. Just outside the town centre is the Robin Park leisure complex, which incorporates a number of stores, a multiplex cinema, a community sports centre and the DW Stadium, the home ground of Wigan Athletic FC and Wigan Warriors rugby league club.

Education

Residents at The Avenue will find several well-regarded schools in the surrounding area. For younger pupils, Bryn St Peters CE Primary School is a few minutes’ walk away; Our Lady Immaculate Catholic Primary School, Nicol Mere School, and Rectory CE Primary School can be reached in around five minutes by car. Secondary schools include St Edmund Arrowsmith Catholic High School, and Byrchall High School.

For further education, the Wigan campus of Wigan and Leigh College, a 20-minute car journey away, provides a variety of full and part-time courses as well as apprenticeships.

Transport

The commercial hub of Wigan can be reached in 15 minutes by car from Ashton-in-Makerfield. Access to the M6 for Manchester and Liverpool is less than a five-minute drive from the development; the journey time to Manchester is approximately 40 minutes, and to Liverpool, around 45 minutes.

Bryn railway station, situated a short walk from The Avenue, operates direct services to Liverpool Lime Street in around 40 minutes, and Wigan North Western in fewer than 10 minutes. From there, services to Manchester Piccadilly station take about half an hour. For local travel, there are bus stops located nearby.
