Shopping is focused along Chatham High Street and the Pentagon Centre, which has around 70 chain and independent stores. The High Street is also the setting for a wealth of cafés, restaurants and bars catering to all tastes, as well as to the Central Theatre, which stages a programme of live music, drama, dance, comedy and children’s shows, and Kings Theatre, which includes Spotlites Youth Theatre.

Further afield, Bluewater at Greenhithe has around 300 big brand, boutique and specialist shops, and is less than half an hour away by car.


Traditionally Chatham was an important naval town and the Historic Dockyard museum and heritage centre – three miles from Crown Fields – is testament to this, with exhibitions, workshops and family events taking place there regularly.

Other places popular with families include Capstone Farm Country Park, less than two miles away, which is home to a variety of wildlife and has a children’s play area, cycling paths and a fishing lake, Darland Banks local nature reserve, 10 minutes’ drive from the development and Gillingham Park, two miles away, which also has a play area, gardens and a sculpture trail.

Nearby sporting venues include Chatham Ski & Snowboard Centre, five minutes’ drive away, Luton Recreation Ground, which has cricket and football pitches, and Maidstone Road Sports Ground, which has tennis courts and an outdoor gym. Both of these are around 20 minutes’ walk from the development. Medway Park in Gillingham is a regional centre of excellence for sport and offers myriad facilities included a gym, swimming pools, sports hall, judo centre, athletics track and dance studio.


For families, several well-regarded schools can be found in the local area. These include Luton Junior School and New Horizons Children’s Academy for young children and for older students, The Victory Academy, Chatham Grammar School for Girls, Fort Pitt Grammar School (girls) and Holcombe Grammar School (boys).


Major routes within easy reach of Crown Fields include the A229, the A2, the M2 and the M20. Local buses link the area with nearby towns, such as Strood, Gillingham, Rochester and Maidstone, and Chatham Railway Station can be reached in 10 minutes by car. From there regular services operate to Gillingham, Gravesend, Ebbsfleet International, Stratford International, London Bridge, London Victoria, London Charing Cross and London St Pancras International among other destinations.
