The area surrounding the development offers a variety of opportunities to enjoy outdoor leisure. Newent Lake, a short walk away, is renowned for its wildlife and offers a fishing lake, and woodland trails for running, walking and cycling. Less than a mile from Picklenash Grove is the Newent Arboretum, which incorporates nine acres of open countryside that is fenced in, and popular with dog walkers. Further afield, the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is located to the west of Newent, with the Forest of Dean to the south.
A supermarket, and a selection of local shops and casual eateries can be found in the town centre of Newent, around a five-minute walk from the development. The commercial hub of Gloucester, approximately 20 minutes’ drive away, has several shopping districts which include King’s Walk and Eastgate malls, Gloucester Quays outlet, which also has a multiplex cinema, and the Cathedral Quarter for independent retailers and boutiques.
Gloucester’s dining scene will satisfy most tastes, with a diverse choice of family and independent restaurants, particularly around the dockside; situated here is Bangkok Canteen, which received the title of ‘Best Restaurant’ at the Taste of Gloucestershire Awards 2017. In nearby Cheltenham is a two-Michelin-starred French restaurant, Le Champignon Sauvage, which offers a fine dining experience and dishes crafted with locally-sourced, seasonal produce.
Picklenash Grove is within easy reach of local schools, which include Glebe Infant School and Picklenash Junior School, and Newent Community College and Sixth Form Centre for older students.
Further and higher education is provided at Gloucester College, situated 12 miles away, and University of Gloucestershire, which has three campuses, all located within approximately a 30-minute drive of Newent.
