Pioneering garden initiative welcoming wildlife and nature
We have joined with the conservation charity Plantlife to launch a nationwide gardening design initiative inspiring homeowners across the UK to make sapce for nature in their gardens. A bespoke biodiverse design code will be created within each new development to maximise opportunities for better-quality habitats, while showhome gardens implementing nature-driven design will inspire residents to replicate eco-friendly features, and will be used for community education projects.
We launched an industry-leading showhome garden at our Ashlands development in Nottinghamshire, built to the standard of our garden design guide created in collaboration with Plantlife. The garden includes native plant species, as well as biodiverse spaces which offer food and shelter to insects, birds, and other wildlife.
Further showhome gardens are planned for the future, with the project aiming to inspire and guide homeowners by providing advice they can follow in their own gardens.
"The scheme is intended to inspire people across the country to plant native species and attract wildlife to their gardens. This is not an initiative just for Bellway or its customers – everyone will be welcome to visit and learn. We are very determined to lead by example and demonstrate that development and nature can happily coexist."
- Neil Beamsley, Head of Nature and Biodiversity at Bellway
Planting British-grown native wildflowers is one of the easiest and most effective ways to bring nature back into your garden. Unlike many non-native flowers, native species support pollinators, birds and other wildlife – and help to protect the UK’s precious biodiversity right on your doorstep.
