Welcome to Spencer’s Wood, Reading

Spencer’s Wood is a rural village, benefitting from close proximity to the wealth of amenities that both Reading and Wokingham have to offer.

 

Shopping

For everyday essentials, the village is home to a selection of local shops including a convenience store and a post office. The nearest food store is just under 10 minutes’ drive from Langford Park and there are several supermarkets within four miles of the development.

Reading town centre provides an impressive selection of high-street stores, designer labels and independent boutiques. The Oracle Shopping Centre boasts over 80 retailers, a cinema and an outdoor, riverside area featuring shops, bars and restaurants.

Wokingham is a popular market town, offering a good selection of independent shops and brand names, as well as hosting both a weekly market and a monthly farmers’ market.

 

Education

There are several well-regarded schools in the area, to accommodate growing families. For young children, Lambs Lane Primary School is less than half-a-mile away from the development, while Shinfield Infant and Nursery School and Shinfield St Mary’s C of E Junior School are approximately five minutes away by car. For older students, Oakbank Secondary School is less than two miles away.

For higher education, the University of Reading is only 15 minutes away by car from Langford Park.  

 

Transport

Nearby major roads include the A33 and the M4, the A-road provides ease of access to Reading, while the motorway leads to Wokingham and London to the east, and to Bristol and Swindon to the West.

Regular bus services also run through the village to Reading and other local towns.

For train travel, both Wokingham and Reading train stations are around a 20-minute drive from the development and provide services direct to stations in London, including Gatwick airport. Trains from Wokingham also run to Reading, where travellers can then connect to destinations such as Swansea, Bristol, Oxford and Newcastle.

For international travel, the nearest airport is London Heathrow.

 

Eating and drinking

Local food and drink establishments can be found less than a mile away from Langford Park. The Farrier’s Arms is a traditional village pub serving homemade food and a selection of drinks. For restaurants, there is Miah’s Spencer’s Wood, an independent restaurant offering contemporary Indian food.

Wokingham and Reading have a good selection of cafés, restaurants and gastropubs to choose from.  

 

Leisure

Langford Park is ideally placed for countryside pursuits, such as picnics, walking, jogging and cycling. The development includes green open spaces for the enjoyment of residents and the village itself has a recreation ground. There are also several country parks within the local area, the nearest of which is Wellington Country Park, only five minutes’ drive from the development. This 350-acre parkland features children’s playgrounds, an animal farm, sand and water play areas, a miniature railway and a mini golf course. The park also regularly hosts events for families throughout the year.

For golf fans, Bearwood Lakes Golf Club is fifteen minutes’ drive from Langford Park. This 18-hole golf course is set in an attractive park and woodland setting.

Everyday fitness is covered by Willink Leisure Centre, which is only five miles away from the development.  The centre offers a gym, a 25-metre swimming pool, sports halls, tennis and netball courts and an all-weather pitch.

Movie-goers will have a variety of cinemas to choose from. There are four within a 15-minute drive from the development, with two multiplex cinemas in Reading and one in Wokingham, as well as the independent Reading Film Theatre.

Slightly further away are Windsor Castle and LEGOLAND® Windsor, both family-friendly attractions are half-an-hour's drive from Langford Park.
