Transport

These new homes in Bedfordshire are afforded excellent commuter links to destinations close by as well as those further afield. The A421 is a useful connection that allows for travel to Milton Keynes in 25 minutes. Bedford is just over 10 minutes drive away via the A603, while Luton is a 19.5 mile trip along the A6. The M1 is 10.7 miles from home and affords travel to Northampton, 40 minutes away and London city centre, which is one hour and 12 minutes by car.

New Cardington is served by the Bedford Railway Station, which runs regular services to popular destinations. A trip to Leicester is 42 minutes, while Nottingham is a one hour and 14 minute journey. The capital’s London St Pancras International can be reached in one hour and two minutes.

 

Leisure

Around the area to New Cardington residents will find a number of leisure activities to peak their interests. Priory Country Park is a lovely outdoor space to explore. It has 360 acres of parkland comprising lakes, meadows and woodland nestled on a bend of the River Ouse. Visitors can choose from sailing, canoeing and fishing, or a simple walk through the man-made labyrinth. There is also a selection of play equipment for children.

Children are also catered for by Gullivers Land in Milton Keynes. It is a fantastic day out for the whole family featuring rides, attractions and entertainment serving ages two to 13. Woburn Safari Park is sure to be another enjoyable place to visit as over 80 species of wildlife are able to roam the 300 acres of parkland.

The Higgins Art Gallery and Museum in Bedford is housed in a 200-year-old building rich in local history, showcasing an exploration of fine 20th century artworks. It also holds touring exhibitions throughout the year. Also in Bedford there is the Shuttleworth Collection, an aeronautical and automotive museum housed in the old Warden Aerodrome. It is considered to be one of the most prestigious in the world thanks to its rare and interesting collection of artefacts and memorabilia.

Golf enthusiasts will be happy to note that Aspley Guise and Woburn Sands Golf Club, an 18-hole parkland course based upon designs by Sandy Herd, is only quarter-of-an-hour from the development.

 

Education

Residents will find a selection of well-regarded schools within easy reach of the development. On the New Cardington site, the Shortstown Primary School is less than two-years-old and is easy walking distance for parents and children. Elstow School for five to 10-year-olds is less than two miles away, while Willington Lower School is an eight minute drive. St John’s School, which caters for two-year-olds to 19-years-of-age is just under 10 minute’s journey. The popular Bedford Girl’s School and Bedford School for boys are 2.2 miles and 3.9 miles away respectively.

Students of higher-education will find the University of Bedfordshire has campuses at both Luton, a 34-minute commute and at Milton Keynes, which is a 25-minute trip.

 

Shopping

As part of the development there is the purpose-built Village Centre which offers a local supermarket and pharmacy. Nearby to New Cardington there is a post-office and ATM facilities, while in the surrounding area there is a range of commercial services, local supermarkets and a wholesale superstore. Interchange Retail Park is also in close proximity and offers fashion, sporting, beauty and lifestyle shops.

Harpur Shopping Centre in Bedford is undercover and has over 30 retailers including high-street chains, department stores, telecommunications, beauty and stationary shops. The Bedford Town Arcade offers a unique shopping experience comprising independent boutiques and locally-run businesses. Several large supermarkets can also be found in Bedford.

The Summerhill Farm Shop in Cardington is a delightful grocery store that presents a selection of local and seasonal produce made in the surrounding regions. For more regional delights, Bedford boasts an extensive schedule of markets including groceries, garden products, homewares and hand-made goods. Foodies will relish the weekly charter and gourmet markets, as well as the twice-monthly farmers markets. Green thumbs will find the home and garden market a useful source of regional flora and gardening products, while the monthly hand-made markets will appeal to those looking for something truly unique.
