Welcome to Borehamwood

Located just 15 miles from central London, Borehamwood is popular with professionals working in the capital, but has much to offer in its own right, with a busy shopping district, a wealth of leisure facilities and excellent road links with surrounding towns and villages.

 

Education

There are a number of well-regarded schools in the local area that cater for children of all ages. For younger pupils these include Cowley Hill School, Parkside Community Primary School, Kenilworth Primary School and St Teresa’s Catholic Primary School. Hertswood Academy welcomes secondary and sixth form pupils, and Elstree University Technical College specialises in media and performing arts courses for 14 – 19 year olds. Post-16 providers include West Herts College, which has a campus in Watford, around nine miles away, and the University of Hertfordshire in Hatfield, less than eight miles away. The independent Yavneh College, for children aged 11 – 18 years, is less than a mile from the development.

 

Shopping

The town centre is a short walk from Hertsmere Mews and includes independent retailers, bars and cafés along Shenley Road, as well as high-street fashion and homewares stores in Borehamwood Shopping Park. Several supermarkets can also be found within easy reach of the development.

Further afield, Edgware to the south, Barnet to the east and Watford to the west all have busy shopping centres, while Brent Cross shopping mall in Hendon, less than nine miles away is home to around 120 stores, and The Galleria outlet mall at Hatfield to more than 80. St Albans, 25 minutes’ drive away, is another popular shopping destination, counting the Maltings mall, Christopher Place and a twice weekly market among its retail attractions.

In addition, the world-class designer boutiques, department stores and specialist independents of central London are just a train journey away.

 

Eating and drinking

Borehamwood boasts a number of restaurants and cafés offering a variety of international cuisines, including Indian, Chinese, Turkish and Japanese, as well as branches of popular high-street chains. Traditional pubs such as the Mops and Brooms on Rowley Lane and the White Horse in Shenley, two miles from the development, serve a range of craft beers and real ales alongside a menu of classic pub food. Fine dining aficionados will find much to tempt the palate among Hertfordshire’s restaurants – The Manor in Elstree and Sopwell House in St Albans being just two award-winning examples within easy reach of Hertsmere Mews.

 

Leisure

Residents of these new homes in Borehamwood benefit from the town’s close proximity to London and the wealth of leisure opportunities on offer there, as well as from the sporting and cultural amenities available in the local area and surrounding countryside.

Just across the road from the development, Meadow Park counts football pitches, tennis courts, a multi-sports court and a children’s play area among its facilities; the park is also a popular setting for public events during the year, including family fun days and outdoor film screenings. Aberford Park, less than a mile away, has play areas for youngsters, a skate park and extreme sports area for older children, as well as a multi-sports court, wildflower meadow, lake and wildlife area.

Aldenham Country Park in Elstree plays host to a range of activities – camping, pony rides, nature walks and cycling among them – with several adventure play areas, woodland, a 55-acre lake and a working farm to entertain visitors.

Fitness enthusiasts will find two leisure centres around five minutes’ walk from Hertsmere Mews: the Venue, which has two swimming pools, an exercise studio, dance studio and health suite, and the Hertswood Centre, which has a sports hall, squash courts and all weather football and hockey pitches.

Cultural destinations within the town include the independent Reel Cinema, which screens the latest movies, and community hub 96 Shenley Road, which stages a programme of popular film, live theatre, music and comedy throughout the year. Both are just half a mile from the development.

 

Transport

Elstree & Borehamwood Railway Station is 20 minutes’ walk from Hertsmere Mews, or a couple of minutes away by car. From there regular services operate to London St Pancras (around 20 minutes), Farringdon (around 25 minutes) and London Blackfriars (around 30 minutes). Trains also call at St Albans (10 minutes), Luton (25 minutes) and Luton Airport (30 minutes).

Road links with the surrounding area are excellent. The A1 for London to the south and Welwyn, Peterborough, Grantham and Doncaster to the north, is just over a mile away; the M1 for London, Luton, Milton Keynes, Nottingham and Leeds, is 15 minutes’ drive away, and the M25 London Orbital Motorway, is 10 minutes’ drive away.

For domestic and international air travel, Luton Airport is 20 miles and Heathrow Airport 30 miles from the development.
