Having the opportunity to decorate a new-build home means you can finally realise your most exciting interior design ideas, with a perfect blank canvas to begin with that offers boundless potential. In this edition of Our Nest, we meet Alexis of @our_rosemont_home, a Bellway homeowner in Scotland who enjoyed the process of personalising her new home so much, she decided to dedicate her future career to it.
Interior design student Alexis shares her Bellway home near Glasgow with her husband Stephen, their two sons, and Daisy the cockapoo. Having previously owned a new-build home, the family knew that it would be the right choice for their next move and fell in love with a 4-bedroom Bellway Pinehurst home just a short drive from where they were previously living.

“We were really drawn to the ease of buying a new build; it just felt so much less stressful than going through bidding wars and closing dates, which honestly isn’t something we enjoy,” Alexis recalls.
“What really sealed the deal was the location of the development. It’s only five minutes from our old house, but it feels like a whole new space, surrounded by farms and greenery, which we love.”

Bellway’s Pinehurst house style is perfect for growing families, as it boasts an open-plan kitchen and dining area with French doors that open onto the rear garden, plus a handy utility room, and a separate living room. Upstairs are four generously sized bedrooms, including one with an en suite, and a shared family bathroom.
“The Pinehurst stood out to us straight away. We liked that the L-shape layout was a bit different, and how it makes the living room and main bedroom feel so spacious.
“Our home just fits our lifestyle so well; we’ve got the space we need as a family, a big south-facing garden that’s easy to look after, and plenty of potential to grow with us.”

Freedom to create a dream home interior
Alexis’ new Bellway home has provided the freedom to express her interior ideas and inspiration, and far from experiencing the ‘white box syndrome’ that can strike many new-build buyers, she embraced the opportunity to create her dream interior.
“What I love most about starting with a blank canvas is the opportunity to really make the space your own. It’s a chance to express your personality and create something that feels completely unique.”

Drawing upon a range of aesthetics has been key to creating Alexis’ eclectic and colourful, yet cohesive home décor style, with most of her inspiration found on Pinterest and Instagram, where she also shares her own interior progress on her dedicated Bellway home account @our_rosemont_home. From the moody green wood panelled bathroom to the striking mid-century modern furniture, Alexis’ artful home snapshots have attracted thousands of followers and endless questions about how to recreate her distinctive style.
“My interior style is a blend of Danish design, Japanese minimalism, and Scandinavian warmth, clean lines, natural textures, and a calming, functional aesthetic. I’m really drawn to spaces that feel serene but still have character and intention behind every detail.
“Having a visually appealing home is incredibly important to me, it directly impacts my mood and energy. When my space feels beautiful and balanced, I feel more grounded, motivated, and even happier. I don’t think it’s just about how it looks, it’s about how a well-designed space can work for you and your family and how you feel every day.”

Studying interior design has given Alexis a new perspective on decorating her new-build home and what makes a space functional as well as visually appealing:
“I’m more aware of the ‘why’ behind the choices I make for my home,” she explains. “Even if it’s not always conscious, I find myself thinking more about balance, proportion, and how different textures or tones interact in a space. It’s made me pause and consider how a room feels as much as how it looks. I take more time before making decisions.
“It’s also encouraged me to be more experimental, to mix styles, try new layouts, and not be afraid of change. I’m learning that good design isn’t just about aesthetics, but also about how a space functions and supports the way you live in it. So, while I’ve always loved styling and creating mood boards, I now approach my home with a bit more intention and a deeper understanding of the design principles behind the look.”

For Alexis, being experimental with her home décor means being savvy with her purchases and not splurging too much on any one item; sourcing second-hand furniture from Facebook Marketplace and undertaking upcycling projects has been instrumental in curating a home that is filled with good-quality, beautiful and unique pieces, without spending a fortune.
However, Alexis and Stephen have invested in their home where it really matters. While the couple were able to add personal touches to their Bellway home even before moving in, they haven’t been afraid to make significant changes such as a makeover of the main bathroom, which was completed over lockdown. And there are plans for their home to evolve further, including a garage conversion to extend the space in their kitchen and dining area, reflecting the changing needs of their family and embracing the flexibility offered by their Bellway Pinewood home.

Reflecting upon the journey of adding personality to her beautiful Bellway home, Alexis shares that it hasn’t always been as smooth or successful as her sleek Instagram content might suggest:
“From choosing paint colours that didn’t quite work, to rushing a decision on furniture that didn’t suit the space long-term, I’ve had my fair share of ‘what was I thinking?’ moments.
“The great thing is, every mistake has taught me something, mainly to slow down and really live in the space before making big decisions. I’ve learned the value of planning, measuring (twice!), and being patient enough to wait for the right piece rather than settling for something just because it’s quick or convenient.”
Alexis’ tried-and-tested tips for decorating a new-build home

As an interior design student and a proud Bellway homeowner, Alexis is the perfect person to provide must-know advice on decorating a new-build home. Here are her top three tips:
- Take your time – “It can be so tempting to rush in and try to decorate everything straight away, but living in the space for a while really helps you to understand how you use it and what it needs to feel like home.”
- Plan for personality – “Start with the basics that make your space functional and comfortable, then layer in personality over time. Mood boards and saved inspiration are great tools to help you stay focused and build a cohesive look, especially in a new-build home where you’re starting from scratch.”
- Mix and match – “Don’t be afraid to mix high-end décor with more affordable items. You don’t have to spend a fortune to create a beautiful home, some of the best items can be found second-hand or upcycled. Most importantly, make choices that reflect you, rather than just following trends.”
