Herne Bay local area

Initially struggled to afford

Oliver, a 36-year-old Senior Design Manager, and Maria, a 37-year-old Language Teacher, were renting a first-floor two-bedroom maisonette in Herne Bay and had been desperate to move to give a better home life to their 14-month-old son Héctor.

Oliver says: "We wanted to stay in the Herne Bay area as we love being by the sea, but we soon widened our search, even as far as Whitstable and Canterbury. We wanted a house with four bedrooms and a garden for Héctor. Time and time again we found a house we liked but just could not afford it."

Saved by Bellway's mortgage incentive scheme

The couple could not find a home they could afford but now, thanks to Bellway’s ‘Live More, Spend Less’ initiative, they were able to buy a four-bedroom Scrivener house at the Bellway's Oxenden Park development in Herne Bay.

Oliver says: “The sales advisor Sam told us about the ‘Live More, Spend Less’ incentive whereby Bellway were offering up to £24,000 towards mortgage payments on completion. It was a very pleasant surprise – we went away and spoke to our mortgage advisor, and we worked out that by opting to take a lump sum offer of £21,250 we could put down a bigger deposit which meant we could secure a deal with a lower interest rate. We would not have been able to afford this house if we had not been able to take advantage of the mortgage contribution scheme."

Our perfect home

Oliver says: "The Scrivener was perfect for us. Héctor and Maria both suffer from asthma – the new house will be so much better insulated and draught-free and will help them with their condition and allergies. Another benefit of moving to a new-build house is that it will be so much cheaper to heat compared to the maisonette, which was hard to warm up and expensive to keep at a comfortable temperature."

Bellway homes are built with a range of energy-efficient features, saving you up to £2,200 per year compared to an older house.*

Happy family times ahead

The couple are looking forward to happy family times in the new house, with more space and an ideal location.

Oliver says: "It will be lovely when we move in because we can invite Maria’s family over more often, safe in the knowledge that we will have the room to accommodate them. The new house is in a brilliant location as it is a 25-minute walk from the railway station – it’s also only a short walk to the beach in one direction and a short drive to the woods in the other. But most of all, we can’t wait to move into our new home so we can open the French doors to the garden and watch as Héctor toddles about and explores his new world. It will be everything we have ever dreamed of."
