Parks within the town offer a range of facilities, including a children’s play area, outdoor gym and multi-use games area in Winton Park, football pitches, tennis courts and a play area at Eccles Recreation Ground, and sports pitches at Patricroft Recreation Ground, all around a 20-minute walk away.

Sports venues near to The Works include Monton Sports Club; Worsley and Swinton Park golf clubs, and Eccles Leisure Centre, with facilities including a swimming pool, gym and sports hall.

In the city, Manchester’s cultural destinations include the Royal Exchange and Palace theatres for drama, comedy and musicals, Manchester Arena, Manchester Apollo and Bridgewater Hall for live music, and the Odeon IMAX for cinema. Salford Quays is home to the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra at MediaCityUK and The Lowry arts complex, which stages live drama, comedy and dance, as well as art exhibitions and workshops. The Imperial War Museum North can also be found there, along with a multiplex cinema and the restaurants, cafés and shops of the Lowry Outlet shopping mall.


Eccles town centre is around a mile from The Works and is home to a range of independent and high-street stores. A market is held five days a week and a farmers’ market for fresh and artisan produce, once a month. Both take place on The Mall in Eccles Shopping Centre.

The Lowry Outlet, a retail park at Salford Quays, offers a host of big brands at discount prices, while the Trafford Centre, off junctions 9 and 10 of the M60, has more than 200 shops, including designer boutiques, department stores and niche retailers, attracting visitors from throughout the region.

Six miles away, Manchester offers world-class shopping throughout its retail districts, from vintage fashion and designer jewellery in the Northern Quarter to the boutiques of King Street and the department and chain stores of the Arndale Centre, one of the largest shopping malls in the UK.


A number of well-regarded schools are located near these new homes in Eccles, including for younger children, Westwood Park Community Primary School, Monton Green Primary School and Beech Street Community Primary School, all around a mile away. St Patrick’s RC High School and Arts College, and Ellesmere Park High School cater for secondary-age students.

Eccles Sixth Form Centre is part of Salford City College, which also offers a range of apprenticeships, professional and vocational courses. Higher education providers include the University of Salford, the University of Bolton, Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Manchester.


The nearest train station is Patricroft, which is just a few minutes’ walk from the development. From there frequent services run into Manchester Victoria (15 minutes) and Liverpool Lime Street (54 minutes). Metrolink trains run from Eccles Interchange, a five-minute drive, or 25 minutes' walk away, to MediacityUK (10 minutes journey time), Salford Quays (17 minutes journey time) and Manchester Piccadilly (35 minutes journey time).

Junction 2 of the M602 (for Salford) is five minutes from The Works by car; the A57 for Manchester, Sheffield, Worksop and Lincoln to the east, and Warrington and Liverpool to the west is a three-minute drive away. Other major routes easily accessible from the development include the M60 Manchester Outer Ring Road and the M62 trans-Pennine motorway to Salford, Manchester, Bradford, Leeds, Hull and Liverpool. Manchester Airport is less than 20 minutes by car from the development via the M60.
