Less than 10 minutes’ drive from the city centre, Channels is close to Chelmsford’s main shopping areas. These include High Chelmer and Meadows shopping centres, High Street and Moulsham Street, where a mixture of well-known brand names and independent retailers can be found side by side.

Chelmsford Market, located next to High Chelmer Shopping Centre, was first held more than 800 years ago and is still going strong five days a week, with a more specialist food market held on Fridays and Saturdays in High Street. A regular farmers’ market takes place at Hylands House in Hylands Park, while outside Chelmsford, monthly farmers’ markets are held in Matching Tye, Hatfield Heath and Colchester.

Retail parks Chelmer Village, Homelands and Riverside are situated less than five miles from the development and are populated by a selection of high-street retailers and chain restaurants, while further afield Freeport Braintree offers designer shopping at outlet mall prices.

With London Liverpool Street just a 35-minute train journey from Chelmsford, the ultimate shopping experience is within easy reach, from the designer boutiques of Bond Street and Knightsbridge to the mass market appeal of Oxford Street and Westfield at Stratford City.

Leisure

Little Waltham and Chelmsford are surrounded by countryside, so opportunities for running, cycling, hiking, horse riding, or simply taking in the views are plentiful.

The Falcon Bowling Club and Channels Golf Club are both within a few minutes’ walk of the development, while within the city itself 22 public parks lend themselves to sport and leisure. Admirals Park and Central Park in the middle of town are particularly popular with families and city centre workers.

The arts are well represented in Chelmsford, with a full programme of plays, concerts, comedy shows and workshops at the city’s two theatres – The Civic Theatre and the Cramphorn Theatre.

Education

A number of primary and secondary schools are located near these new homes in Chelmsford, including Little Waltham CE Primary School, just six minutes’ drive away. Other primary schools in the area include Springfield Primary School, two miles from the development, Broomfield Primary School, three miles away and Great Waltham CE Primary, four miles away.

Older children are catered for by secondary schools in Chelmsford and the surrounding area, including Chelmer Valley High School, Hylands School, Moulsham High School and the independent New Hall School. King Edward VI Grammar School and Chelmsford County High School for Girls – two of the top performing schools in the country – are both less than four miles from Channels.

For post-16 education Chelmsford College offers a range of apprenticeships, further education and professional courses, while Writtle College, five miles away, specialises in land-based and design courses. Anglia Ruskin University has a campus in the city, Essex University is based at Colchester, 26 miles away and the University of East London at Docklands is 36 miles away.

Transport

Chelmsford Railway Station is around 10 minutes’ drive from Channels and from there it is 25 minutes into Stratford (for DLR and London Underground Central Line) and 35 minutes into London Liverpool Street. Colchester, in the other direction, is around 20 minutes away, journey time to Ipswich is around 40 minutes and to Norwich 1 hour 24 minutes.

Major roads easily accessible from the development include the A12 (eight minutes’ drive away), which intersects with the M25 and the A406 North Circular in London; the A130, just two minutes’ drive away and the A120, 12 minutes away by car.

Stansted Airport, which lies off the A120, is 15 miles from the development.
