Situated on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds, the town of Market Weighton, East Riding, benefits from excellent commuter links to York, Beverley and Hull.

 

Transport

For commuters, Market Weighton is conveniently located close to the A1079 York Road, providing ease of access to York, Selby, Beverley and Hull.

Applegarth is only a one-and-a-half-mile drive away from the A614, offering quick access to the M62, which travels across the Pennines and links east Yorkshire to west Yorkshire. This major road offers ease of access to Bradford and Leeds, before moving onto Manchester and Liverpool.  

The nearest rail station is located around 11 miles away, in Beverley, and offers regular services to destinations including Scarborough, Sheffield, Doncaster, Hull and York.

For international travel, Leeds Bradford Airport is around one hour and 20 minutes’ drive from the development.

For families with young children, there are several highly-regarded primary schools within the area, including Market Weighton Infant School and Mount Pleasant CE Junior School, both located within four minutes’ drive from Applegarth.

For outdoor pursuits with the family, Market Weighton offers several children’s play parks, playing fields, a traditional village green and a local duck pond.

There are also several country walks and trails taking in the local area, such as the popular Hudson and Yorkshire Wolds Way circuits.

Nearby Rifle Butts Quarry Nature Reserve is ideal for picnics and walks, offering visitors the chance to explore over 150 plants, as well as local wildlife. Boasting Europe’s largest collection of Water Lillies in a natural setting, Burnby Hall Gardens is only a 12-minute drive away and features picturesque lakes and gardens.

History buffs may be interested to know that England`s Tallest Man, according to the Guinness Book of Records, lived within Market Weighton. Born in 1787, William Bradley grew to seven foot, nine inches tall and still carries the record. Within the town centre there is a life-size statue, a plaque showing his footprint and the Giant Bradley Heritage Trail, marked by 23 actual size footprints. The Londesborough Arms, on the high street, was William’s local pub and still houses his large chair for all to view.

Historic York offers a wealth of cultural and entertainment facilities, including museums, theatres, an opera house, a multiplex cinema and York Racecourse. 

The east coast is within easy reach of Applegarth, with local train services running to seaside towns such as Scarborough and Bridlington, both of which are less than an hour’s drive away.
