Welcome to Calcot, Reading

Calcot is a leafy suburb, benefitting from several local amenities while offering excellent commuter links into Reading.

 

Education

Growing families are well catered for, with a selection of well-regarded schools nearby, including Kennet Valley Primary School, which is approximately a five-minute walk from the development, and St Paul’s Catholic Primary School, around five minutes’ drive. For high school students, Little Heath School, Theale Green Community School and Denefield School are each within a 10-minute drive from Hawkswood.

For higher education, the University of Reading is only 15 minutes away from the development, by car.

 

Transport

Local travel connections are excellent, with major roads including the M4 and A4, both of which are less than half a mile away. The A4 provides ease of access to Reading, which is around a 10-minute drive from the development. While the M4 provides fast routes to London and links to the M25, to the east, as well as connecting to Bristol and Swindon to the west.

For public transport, regular bus services also run through Calcot into Reading and other local towns.

Reading train station is within a mile-and-a-half away from the development and provides services direct to London, Swansea, Newcastle, Oxford and Bristol among its destinations.

The station operates a regular service from Reading to London Gatwick, while Heathrow Airport is the nearest airport by car. 

 

Shopping

Within less than half-a-mile away from the development, along Bath Road, residents will find a range of good quality amenities, supermarkets, and a mix of high-street and independent retailers.  While there are several other supermarkets within the local area, and superstores within Reading.

Reading is a thriving town, offering a multitude of shopping opportunities, with its town centre housing everything from high-street and well-known brand names, to designer labels and independent stores. A collection of boutiques can be found in the town’s Harris Arcade, while the popular Oracle Shopping Centre is home to a wealth of big-name outlets.

 

Eating and Drinking

For golf players, Calcot Park Golf Course is only two minutes’ drive away from the development. This traditional, 18-hole course is set in beautiful parkland, featuring a stream and a lake

For further outdoor leisure pursuits, Reading benefits from several large parks and family-friendly attractions. Basildon Park, Beale Park Wildlife Park and Gardens and Wellington Country Park can each be accessed within 15 minutes by car.

Basildon Park is a National Trust area, which features an 18th-century Georgian mansion, surrounded by parkland. While Beale Park Wildlife Park and Gardens is a conservation area, featuring a range of rare and endangered animals and birds, children’s play parks and a miniature train to explore.

Wellington Country Park offers landscaped parkland and a range of attractions, including a zip wire, children’s play area, miniature railway, a nature trail maze, 12-hole mini golf course and an indoor soft-play. There is also an animal farm and a petting zoo.

For indoor attractions, Reading presents several climbing centres, an indoor ski slope, the Central Swimming Pool and a trampoline park.

Movie-goers will find two large multiplex cinemas in Reading, as well as the independent Reading Film Theatre. For more cultural pursuits, the town is also home to several museums and a theatre.
