Welcome to Waltham Abbey

This ancient market town boasts links to King Harold, who is said to have been buried in the abbey church following his defeat at the Battle of Hastings in 1066. It is situated 25 miles from central London and enjoys convenient access to the M25, yet is also surrounded by picturesque countryside and is close to the rivers, canals and lakes of the Lee Valley Regional Park.

 

Transport

Hazlemere Marina benefits from good local transport links, with regular trains running from Waltham Cross Railway Station to Tottenham Hale (for London Underground’s Victoria Line), Stratford (for Docklands Light Railway and the Central Line tube), and London Liverpool Street (for the Central Line and for the City). A network of public buses connects Waltham Abbey with surrounding towns and villages, such as Loughton, Cheshunt and Harlow. Major road links include the A10 (for London Bridge, Shoreditch, Stoke Newington and Tottenham to the south, and Hertford, Cambridge and King’s Lynn to the north), the M11 (for east London, Stansted Airport and Cambridge), and the M25 London Orbital Motorway. Stansted Airport is half an hour away by car via the M25 and the M11, while Heathrow Airport is a 40-minute car journey away via the M25.

 

Education

Residents of these new homes in Waltham Abbey will find a number of well-regarded schools in the surrounding area, such as Waltham Holy Cross Infant School, Four Swannes Primary School and St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, which cater for younger children. Secondary schools include Lea Valley High School, Oasis Academy Enfield and King Harold Business & Enterprise Academy.

Post-16 education providers include Capel Manor College, Epping Forest College and Hertford Regional College at Broxbourne, all around 10 minutes’ drive away. The nearest university is the University of Hertfordshire in Hatfield, around 20 minutes’ drive from Hazlemere Marina, while London’s many universities are just a train journey away.

 

Shopping

Waltham Abbey town centre is the setting for a variety of independent stores, as well as several supermarkets and a twice weekly market. There is also a Tesco superstore on Sewardstone Road, just over a mile from the development, and a Sainsbury’s supermarket, just under a mile away, within The Pavilions Shopping Centre in Waltham Cross. The Pavilions is also home to around 50 chain stores and independent retailers.

Well-known brands can be found at Highbridge Retail Park, a few minutes’ walk from Hazlemere Marina, while Brookfield Shopping Park, just off the A10 at Cheshunt, is another popular shopping destination, with a range of fashion retailers.

Westfield Stratford City is a 30-minute drive from the development and with almost 300 stores, as well as a multiplex cinema, cafés and restaurants, is one of the largest shopping malls in Europe.

 

Leisure

Hazlemere Marina is well placed to benefit from the multitude of sporting and leisure opportunities afforded by the Lee Valley Regional Park. Covering 10,000 acres this ‘green lung’ encompasses lakes, grassland, woodland and wetland, providing habitats for wildlife, as well as recreational activities for local residents.

The Lee Valley White Water Centre, which hosts a range of watersports, is the nearest sports venue to the development, but the park also includes the Lee Valley VeloPark and the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre, part of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, 20 miles away. The River Lee Country Park is a short car journey away, extending from Waltham Abbey to Broxbourne this 1,000 acre park offers cycle routes, walking trails, boat hire, children’s play areas and regular family events.

Family activities are held at Lee Valley Park Farms, where children can also get to know the resident farm animals, while Paradise Wildlife Park at Broxbourne is home to more exotic species, such as tigers, snow leopards and lions, as well as train and tractor rides, and adventure play areas.

Waltham Abbey Gardens and Myddelton House Gardens are located within the regional park; other historic landmarks close by include the Jacobean manor house Forty Hall in Enfield and the Royal Gunpowder Mills heritage site and museum, less than 10 minutes’ walk from the development.

For movie fans, regular film screenings are held in Waltham Abbey town hall in Highbridge Street, while Cineworld at Southbury Leisure Park in Enfield screens the latest movies and is situated next to branches of several popular family restaurant chains.
