These include Christ Church Hanham CE Primary, Samuel White’s Infant, and Hanham Abbots Junior schools for younger children, and Bristol Brunel Academy, Colston Girls School and St Mary Redcliffe and Temple School for secondary-age pupils. Post-16 providers include South Gloucestershire and Stroud College, and Bath College, which both offer a variety of apprenticeships, academic and vocational courses. The University of Bristol and The University of the West of England are both 20 minutes’ from the development by car.

Hanham high street is less than 10 minutes’ walk from Abbotscroft and provides a focus for local shopping, with two supermarkets and a selection of independent retailers. Gallagher Shopping Park, less than five minutes’ drive away offers a variety of fashion and homewares stores, as well as a large supermarket.

Bristol city centre is home to three indoor malls – The Galleries, Cabot Circus and St James Arcade – and to Broadmead, a pedestrianised hub of well-known department and chain stores, specialist and independent shops. Slightly further afield, the historic city of Bath boasts a plethora of vintage, antique and artisan retailers, in addition to big brand names at its commercial heart. Both cities offer a wealth of fine dining and casual restaurants, cafés, art galleries, entertainment venues and museums.

With the Cotswolds just 20 minutes’ drive away, the area is ideal for outdoor pursuits, such as hiking, cycling, horseriding, or simply rambling through the rolling countryside, admiring the majestic views and villages of honey-coloured stone.

Closer to home, Hanham Common, off Memorial Road, has a children’s play area and several grass football pitches; the village also has cricket and tennis clubs based at the sports ground on Abbots Road. Dundridge Park, less than two miles from the development, has a play area, as well as sports pitches and woodland linking it to Conham River Park, part of the Avon Valley Woodlands local nature reserve. Eastwood Farm Nature Reserve lies next to this, just across the River Avon, and is five miles from Abbotscroft.

Avon Valley Adventure and Wildlife Park is 10 minutes’ drive away and is popular with families; it offers indoor and outdoor play zones, a miniature railway and tractor rides. Aspects Leisure Park, a 10-minute walk from the development, is another family friendly destination, with a 24-lane bowling alley, multi-screen cinema, swimming pool, sports hall, gym and several restaurants on site.
