Welcome to Bicester

As a market town whose history dates back to Saxon times, Bicester it is one of the fastest growing towns in Oxfordshire offering picturesque streetscapes, luxury shopping and stunning architecture.

 

Transport

Saxon Meadows is ideally located for access to the motorway network as well as more local road links. The A41 provides a useful connection which allows journeys to Bicester in just 5 minutes and Aylesbury in a little over half an hour. Oxford can be reached via the A34 and is a 16.3 mile drive, while Milton Keynes is just under 45 minutes via the A421.

Bicester is served by two rail stations, Bicester North Railway Station and Bicester Town Railway Station. Bicester North offers the widest selection of services allowing travel to London Marylebone in 52 minutes, Birmingham in just over one hour and Stratford-upon-Avon in one hour and 10 minutes. It also has regular shuttle bus services to Bicester Village.

 

Education

These new homes in Bicester have several schools close by that cater for nursery to college-aged students. Langford Village Community School is a 2.4 mile drive from home, while the Chesterton CE Primary School takes just 5 minutes by car. The Bicester Community College serves 11 to 18-year-olds and is only 1.4 miles away, whereas Cooper School is 2.3 miles, but caters for the same age group.

Tertiary students will benefit from the close proximity of one of the world’s leading universities - Oxford University, under a 20 minute journey, who counts Stephen Hawking and David Cameron among its alumni.

 

Leisure

There are plenty of activities close to the development for resident’s entertainment. Bicester itself creates a delightful setting for a stroll through the picturesque historic market town triangle which features 16th century buildings. Active residents of Saxon Meadows will also enjoy the facilities on offer at Bicester Sports and Leisure Centre and Ploughley Sports Centre.

The Rousham House, just 12 miles north of Oxford, is a 16th century country home that has been kept in pristine condition by the same family for generations. It has one of the finest examples of Augustan landscaped gardens in the country, designed by William Kent in the 18th century. Similarly, Boarstall Tower is only eight miles from Oxford and is a beautiful historic site set in lush green space, featuring the remains of a 14th century fortified house and moated gatehouse. Blenheim Palace, is another heritage highlight as it is the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill. As the principal residence of the dukes of Marlborough it is an excellent example of 18th century Baroque architecture.

To continue enjoying the great outdoors the Kirtlington Golf Club has a 9-hole and 18-hole parkland course alongside customised coaching facilities. Bure Park Nature Reserve and Garth Park are also enticing open spaces to explore.

Oxford is less than a half hour drive from Saxon Meadows and boasts a wide variety of leisure pursuits. The architectural highlights of Oxford include the Radcliffe Camera, University Church of St Mary the Virgin, Sheldonian Theatre and the Oxford Town Hall. Additionally, the University of Oxford Botanic Gardens, the oldest botanic garden in Britain and one of the oldest scientific gardens in the world, is a wonderful space to discover and enjoy.

Cultural interests are well-covered too with the Oxford Playhouse, O2 Academy and Modern Art Oxford delivering contemporary productions and exhibitions from the greatest artists and entertainers in Britain and Europe.

 

Shopping

Residents of these new homes in Oxfordshire are spoilt for choice with nearby retail options. Bicester Village is a popular outlet shopping mall showcasing designers and high-end labels. It is the place to indulge in luxury fashion.
