Opened in 1857, this is one of the country’s oldest museums and is worth a visit to explore the quintessential character of the building itself, not to mention the fascinating, interactive ‘Time Tunnel’, the Egyptian painted coffin, and a model of Warrington’s very own 240-million-year-old dinosaur.

Families are well-placed to take a trip to Gulliver’s World Theme Park, just a 10-minute drive from Primrose Meadow. This impressive amusement park boasts over 80 rides, activities and shows to enjoy, including play areas, fossil digs, tractor driving and climbing walls. Events are also held regularly throughout the year, while Splash Zone and Nerf Zone are the park’s indoor attractions, ensuring visitors are entertained whatever the weather.

Younger residents may wish to take advantage of Warrington’s Jellybeans Play Centre, which includes a large multi-level soft play area, a sports zone, climbing wall, ten pin bowling lane and even a racing track, while parents can enjoy refreshments from the welcoming Jellybeans café.

On-site activities include a pitch ‘n’ putt, pottery making, trampolining or simply relaxing over a home-baked cake in the pleasant Heritage Café.

Everyday entertainment can be found just a 10 minute drive from home, at the popular LA Bowl centre, which houses not only state of the art bowling lanes, but a karaoke bar, laser tag arena, dodgem track and even a restaurant and fully-licensed bar. Also 10-minutes away by car, is a 10-screen multiplex cinema, featuring 3D screens, Premier seats and a relaxing café. Warrington is even home to the UK’s largest indoor go-karting circuit, with a three-storey go-karting arena, promising 1,000m of exhilarating racing.

In the town’s thriving Cultural Quarter, Las Rablas Wine and Tapas boasts a trendy and relaxing ambience set in the Warrington’s former Victorian council treasury. Featuring dark, polished oak, exposed brick and high ceilings, Las Rablas provides the ideal environment to enjoy the Spanish cuisines of Andalusia and share a jug of sangria to the back-drop of soothing live music.

For a vibrant evening meal featuring the best of British cuisine, The Grill on the Square is located on Palmyra Square North in the heart of Warrington town centre. With an elegant dining area, sophisticated Chef’s Table, and welcoming bar, guests can expect an intriguing a la carte menu complemented by an extensive wine and champagne list.

 

Shopping

Warrington is famous for its extensive shopping opportunities, such as the Gemini Retail Park, which is home to the UK’s first IKEA furniture store, and one of the biggest Marks & Spencer stores outside of London. This popular shopping park also presents a range of well-known names such as Boots, Next, Toys R Us and Ikea.

The town centre presents a range of shops, boutiques and services across its high street, with the main shopping areas located on Buttermarket Street, Horse Market Street, Sankey Street, Bridge Street and Market Gate. Retail Parks are also plentiful in the town including Alban Retail Park, Pinners Brow Retail Park and Riverside Retail Park, all featuring big brand names, homewares, and electricals, along with a host of family-friendly restaurants.
