Portway Place is a proposed development of new homes in Halstead, set in a semi-rural location and surrounded by beautiful Essex countryside.

The anticipated product mix comprises 2, 3 and 4-bedroom homes, offered in a variety of designs to appeal to a wide audience, including families, first-time buyers and commuters.

All homes will be completed to a quality specification; many will benefit from integrated kitchen appliances and open-plan living spaces, and all will have gardens and garages, or off-street parking.

For families, several well-regarded schools can be found within the local area, including Holy Trinity CE Primary School and Richard de Clare Community Primary School for younger children, and The Ramsey Academy for older pupils.

Halstead town centre is less than a mile from the development. This pretty market town boasts a broad selection of independent shops and branches of well-known chain stores on its high street, as well as a regular food and craft market, cafés, traditional pubs and restaurants. There is also a community theatre – the Empire – that stages live music, drama, comedy and family shows, and a leisure centre with a range of facilities.

Historic buildings of note, include St Andrew’s Church, which dates back to the 14th century, and the 18th century Townsford Mill. A former corn and silk mill, it is situated just off the bottom of High Street, on The Causway and is today home to Halstead Antiques Centre.

Braintree is around eight miles to the south of Portway Place and Colchester is 13 miles away. Both places offer a wealth of shopping options in their town centre stores and retail parks.

The countryside location of these new homes in Halstead lends itself to outdoor activities, such as walking, cycling and horse riding. Broaks Wood has five miles of walking paths and is rich in wildlife, wildflowers and trees – including Giant Redwoods – while Gosfield Lake Resort offers fishing, water skiing and open-water swimming. Both are within 10 minutes drive of the development. Formal parks in the area include Halstead Public Gardens, off Trinity Street, and Marks Hall Gardens and Arboretum in Coggeshall.

Major roads easily accessible from Portway Place include the A131 (for Sudbury and Braintree) and the A120 (for Colchester, Harwich, Stansted Airport, Bishop’s Stortford and the M11). The nearest train station is at Braintree, a 15-minute car journey away and from there trains run to Witham, Chelmsford, Stratford and London Liverpool Street.

For domestic and international flights Stansted Airport is a 30-minute drive away via the A120.
