This is the house that dad built

Whoever said being a first time buyer is tough obviously hasn’t spoken to Rob Atkinson, who recently used the Government’s Help to Buy scheme to purchase a four bedroom detached house from Bellway Homes which, remarkably, was built by dad.

Rob, a 32 year old medical sales manager from Bridlington bought his new home at The Limes development in Cross Gates, Leeds for £250,000 having decided to leave his rented York apartment and begin a family with his fiancée Karen.

The key to Rob and Karen’s dream move was Rob’s father Paul Atkinson, who is a Bellway site manager, and has been working on The Limes since construction began in 2012.

“My dad read about Help to Buy while working on-site and immediately mentioned it to Karen and myself,” said Rob.

“I’m sure that at the time he didn’t realise that the information he passed on would result in him building a house for his own son.”

Help to Buy is a Government  initiative aimed at helping both first-time buyers and existing homeowners across England, purchase a new-build home with as little as a 5 per cent deposit. (For full information see notes to editors).

“The housing market has suffered a lot in recent years, but the improving economy, tied in with the introduction of Help to Buy has really put some momentum back into it, especially when it comes to first time buyers seeking to get their feet onto the property ladder” said Melanie Smith, Bellway’s Yorkshire sales manager.

Help to Buy is currently available on all Bellway properties in Yorkshire, including the range of 3 and 4 bedroom, energy efficient homes, at The Limes, where prices start at £174,995.

“As a first time buyer there are many factors which impact upon the house you eventually end up living in, but to put it in simple terms – without Bellway and Help to Buy we would certainly have struggled to afford this house,” added Rob.

“And let’s not forget my dad – a man who not only provides very good property advice, but, even more importantly for Karen and myself, is a great builder.”

The Limes development in Cross Gates, Leeds, is located just off Manston Lane, and features 122 three and four bedroom family homes. It is close to all local amenities and within easy reach of Leeds city centre and the M1 motorway.
