Teachers benefit from Help to Buy

Teachers, Kirsty Leigh and her partner Anthony Griffin are amongst the thousands of first time buyers who have benefited from the Government’s Help to Buy scheme launched by the Chancellor of Exchequer in his Budget.

Kirsty and Anthony had been paying £500 a month for a one bedroom rented apartment in Evesham and had been saving for a deposit to put down on a new home when the Help to Buy scheme was launched earlier this year.

Anthony and Kirsty moved into a three bedroom home on Bellway’s Abbeyfields development in June, taking advantage of a 5% deposit and 20% five year interest free loan.

“We estimate that the Help to Buy scheme has shortened the length of time we would have had to save up for a deposit by three years,” said Anthony.

“We certainly wouldn’t have been able to afford this home without Help to Buy; it has made an amazing difference to our lifestyles. To think that we were paying a similar amount in rent to what we are now paying for a mortgage and we have our own home – I couldn’t be happier,” said Kirsty.

Kirsty and Anthony sourced their mortgage from the Halifax and were able to move into their new home within a month of first seeing it.

Bellway has a range of homes available at Abbeyfields which start in price from £176,000 including two and three bedroom semi-detached homes and three bedroom terraced homes. Customers taking advantage of the Help to Buy scheme need only put down a 5% deposit and can then take advantage of a five year 20% interest free loan.

Stephen Rose, sales director at Bellway, commented: “We have experienced a considerable amount of interest in the Help to Buy scheme since it was launched in April and already have over 400 clients across the Bellway Group enjoying the benefits of the scheme.  Help to Buy is constructed to reduce the amount of deposit required and reduce monthly mortgage payments in those important early years of owning a property.”

For commuters, Abbeyfields is just 1.6 miles from Evesham station with fast links direct to London Paddington in less than 2 hours and Oxford or Birmingham New Street in under an hour. Road links are excellent - the A46 and A44 cross at Evesham, with Worcester, Stratford-upon-Avon, and Cheltenham each 17 miles away, and Birmingham Airport 35 miles away.
