Sail Of The Century At Bellway Homes’ Quayside

A Cardiff couple has gone overboard for a new home at Bellway Homes Wales’ exclusive apartment scheme in Mermaid Quay.

Andy and Jane Keitch fell in love with the Quayside development which overlooks the landmark Wales Millennium Centre and out towards the waterfront of Cardiff Bay and were so committed to buying a new apartment that they are living on a boat until it is ready.

Andy, 50, said: “By chance, we saw the opening of the sales office last year and we knew it was for us; it took us just 10 minutes to make a decision to buy. We lived in a four-bedroom townhouse in Pontprennau in Cardiff and put it on the market because we didn’t know how long it would take to sell. We thought we had sold it but then the buyers pulled out so we had been let down. Then, another buyer came who wanted to move in by January and we didn’t want to miss out on the sale so we decided to live on our boat which is moored at Cardiff Bay until our Quayside apartment was ready.

“We love the area; it’s vibrant and full of life. We used to spend every weekend on the boat and depending on the weather conditions, out on the water as well so having a new home at Quayside was ideal for us. Our four children have flown the nest so we were looking for a two bedroom home when we came across Quayside. We couldn’t resist the penthouse apartment with views out all around Cardiff and out to the Bristol Channel which means we can see what the weather is like before we even go out on the boat. The location is fabulous.

“We’ve got to live on the boat for a few months until the apartment is ready and absolutely love it. There’s heating, a shower and everything we need while we’re moored up. We are looking forward to when the new apartment is ready. We discovered that there was a cycle shed at Quayside so we’ve even bought two bikes so we can cycle around the Bay as well, we’ve got a fantastic lifestyle ahead of us.”

Denise Swift, sales manager at Bellway Homes Wales, said: “We were really surprised to hear that Andy and Jane were moving on to their boat while the development is in the final stages of construction. It’s certainly unique but we’re sure it will be worthwhile when their brand new apartment is ready at Quayside. “The location that Quayside offers is unrivalled and we believe it will become a landmark building of its own. The apartments offer stunning views of Cardiff Bay, over looking Roald Dahl Plass, the WMC and the waterside. Quayside is also just a matter of minutes from the city while just a short stroll away from the cosmopolitan restaurants, shops and bars on your doorstep. It has been an attraction to young professionals working in the city, couples, investors and downsizers so there is a real mix of purchasers for the studio, one and two-bedroom apartments available.”

Apartments at Quayside range from just £128,995 to £215,995 with a few apartments available from £82,547 with a local authority purchase scheme through Bellway Homes.
