Marathon man Dave Smith returns to a round of cheers and a few beers

Leicester man, Dave Smith is the toast of the town having just completed the New York Marathon in aid of The Prostrate Cancer Charity.

The 26.2 mile course which runs from Staten Island to Manhattan via Brooklyn, Queens and The Bronx was nothing but daunting nine months ago for Dave who is hoping to raise £5,000 for the charity after losing an uncle and grandfather to the disease.

Dave (37) lives in Queniborough and works for housebuilder, Bellway started training at the beginning of the year in preparation for the marathon which he completed in four hours forty four minutes and fourteen seconds.

“It was an amazing experience and I am glad to have completed it although I will need to look at the video as I don’t think that I can remember crossing the finishing line. I am well on my way to reach my target of £5,000 and am very grateful to friends and colleagues who have supported me throughout the training, I will keep on running but I am not sure about another marathon just yet, what I am really looking forward to is a few beers with my friends down at my local pub.”
