Help to Buy appeals to City East residents

A young professional couple living in Ilford are one of the first people to purchase a new home at City East in Barking using the Help to Buy scheme that was launched by the Government on 1 April.

Chowdhry Iqbal (35) an accountant and his wife Aisha Akram (30) a doctor have bought a new one bedroom apartment from housebuilder, Bellway Homes.

Commenting on his new home Mr. Iqbal, said: “We have been renting a property in Ilford and had viewing various websites for another home to rent that would offer us more space. We liked the contemporary look of the new homes at City East and when we saw on the website that we could buy with just a five percent deposit using the Help to Buy scheme we decided to visit the development. Jeanette, Bellway’s sales advisor explained in detail how the Help to Buy scheme worked and how we would be able to afford  our own home at City East.”

“We both felt that Bellway’s ‘Redshank’ apartment was the perfect size, offering plenty of space and all the amenities that we would need,” continued Aisha.

Bellway made all the arrangements for Chowdhry and Aisha who sourced a mortgage from the Halifax and will be moving into their new home in August.

“We feel so fortunate,” said Aisha. “The Help to Buy scheme has made all the difference, we certainly would not have been in this position today without the scheme.”

City East comprises a range of homes including 3 and 4 bedroom family homes as well as 1 and 2 bedroom apartments. Prices start from £136,995 for a 1-bedroom apartment and £169,995 for a 2-bedroom apartment, four bedroom homes start from £275,995.
