Downsizing - a perfect retirement remedy

Planning for retirement can give you a new lease of life according to former nurse Maureen Hussey. After 42 years of work, Maureen decided the time had come for a new start which would also include a new home.

“I had decided to downsize from my old four bedroom home in Birmingham but really wasn’t sure what I wanted I needed to be inspired and sensed that I would know it when I found it.  I decided to rent for a while and look around to find my ideal home at leisure. It was whilst in pursuit of this that I stumbled across a new development and went in to look around the show home. That was when I found my answer. I decided a new-build was a sensible and exciting choice. It would be more energy efficient and more economical. I also wanted the benefit of a 10-year NHBC warranty that comes with new built properties which would give me added peace of mind.

I wanted to be in a semi-rural location with good amenities and not too far from my friends in Birmingham. As soon as I found Bellway’s development in Pershore I knew that I had found my new home. Spring Grove was absolutely perfect. I have terrific views across open fields and it is a safe environment for my two precious cats, I am also in walking distance of a lovely market town. With excellent rail and motorway links it is easier to visit my sisters who live in Hampshire and West Sussex,” said Maureen.

Maureen moved into Spring Grove in December and purchased a three bedroom Stafford style home from Bellway which provides 781 sq ft of living space and features a breakfast kitchen with French doors to the rear garden, a large lounge and downstairs WC on the ground floor, the first floor provides a spacious Master bedroom with en-suite and two further good size bedrooms and family size bathroom. The Stafford also has the advantage of having a detached garage and generous drive

“I am absolutely delighted with my purchase; my home is spacious and modern and offers all that I want for my lifestyle. My guests can enjoy a lovely double bedroom and bathroom and I use the third bedroom as my study. Not having bought a new home for some time I was quite wary of the buying process, however I have been very impressed with Bellway’s service, they were extremely efficient and the site staff very courteous and professional.”

Bellway’s Sales Manager, Annette Baskett confirmed: “Spring Grove has been a bit of a magnet for people wishing to down size from larger properties around Birmingham. Retirees often want to realize some capital from their old home in order to travel or perhaps help their children on to the housing ladder, many have realized that downsizing to Spring Grove is a happy compromise and gives them the financial flexibility they seek.”

Homes at Spring Grove start in price from £188,000, Bellway has a range of properties available including three bedroom terrace and four and five bedroom detached homes.

Bellway can offer buyers a menu of buying options at Spring Grove that include part exchange, 5% deposit with the New Buy scheme and the recently introduced Help to Buy scheme where buyers can take advantage of a 5-year interest free twenty percent equity loan and benefit from the lower mortgage payments on a seventy five percent mortgage.
