Bellway Homes Purchase London Waterside Development

Bellway Homes have contracted with Lanark Square Limited for the development of Turnberry Quay, a new mixed use scheme on the Isle of Dogs to the south of Baltimore Wharf.

On completion, Turnberry Quay will transform 1980’s commercial premises on the dockside to provide 89 new homes and 320m2 commercial space. Bellway Homes are set to develop the scheme in conjunction with an affordable housing provider and construction is due to start in 2014.

The project has recently received planning permission from the London Borough of Tower Hamlets delivering £800,000 of Section 106 and Mayoral CIL contributions – equivalent to £9,000 per unit. With £19 million of capital investment, the Turnberry Quay development will also create approximately 60 construction jobs and 26 permanent jobs, bringing substantial economic benefit to the local community.

Following strong developer interest in this area, the council is standing by its objective to achieve high levels of affordable housing alongside a provision for rented accommodation. At Turnberry Quay 32% of the new accommodation will be affordable, with 68% of these for rent and the remainder for shared ownership.

Designed by Stock Woolstencroft, the 13 storey development will have commercial accommodation at ground floor and mixed tenure housing on the upper levels, ranging from one to three bedrooms. All homes have private amenity in the form of balconies or terraces and a children’s play area is located in front of the building.

Turnberry Quay will reinforce connectivity between Millwall, Crossharbour and Canary Wharf and enhance the local townscape and visual amenity within the Isle of Dogs. This project is a key element of the second wave of regeneration around the quays, contributing to the developing neighbourhood on the Island.
