Bellway Helps Keep Good Neighbours Together

John and Clare Boots must be the perfect neighbours – when they moved into a new Bellway home after 20 years – their two neighbouring families followed.

Three families have now all moved onto the same street at Westfield Rise, Newport, after they couldn’t bear to be parted, and said “we feel like we’ve won the lottery”.

Over the years, the Boots, the Parkers and the Watkins-Jones’ have become firm friends as well as neighbours.

All six were neighbours at a street in nearby Bettws, living there for a combined total of 70 years, sharing dinners, cups of tea and helping each other through illness and bereavement in three of 16 houses in a small cul-de-sac.

John and Clare Boots had moved in 20 years ago, two doors down from Steve and Mary Parker who had been living there for 28 years. Jane Jones and her partner Mark Watkins lived in the opposite house (Jane had been there 22 years, with Mark moving in 10 years ago) and the families began a friendship that was to transcend bricks and mortar.

“We all just gelled,” said John. “We were never in each other’s pockets, just always there for each other. There have been tears and laughter. My father recently passed away and Mark has had heart problems and we’d all been a support system.

“We all loved that old-fashioned neighbourhood set-up. It was an open door policy – we’d pop over for a glass of wine or have dinner at each other’s houses. Christmases were especially fun.”

So when John and Clare found their perfect Bellway house at Westfield Rise less than two miles away, it wasn’t long before the others were making their own plans to join them.

John and Clare were the first to move to the new development when John gave his wife his credit card and told her to ‘buy something nice’ – and she came back and told him she’d bought a house.

“We were ready to move, it was the next step,” said John.

“It’s such a beautiful house, the price was right and the move was so smooth – we’d do it all again.”

When the couple put their name down for a mortgage, Mark and Jane were so disappointed that within a week, they had put in an offer on a house three doors down.

The final piece in the puzzle – Steve and Mary from two doors away –saw how well they had settled in and bought the house next door to John and Clare. So within just six months, all three families had been reunited in their brand new Bellway homes.

The three couples now occupy three houses on one side of the cul-de-sac at Westfield Rise, and have recreated the same harmonious living atmosphere, with the final family, the Parkers, moving in this June.

All three families purchased their homes on a part-exchange basis.

Denise Swift, sales manager for Bellway Homes, said: “It’s fantastic that the three sets of families have all decided to relocate together at Westfield Rise. It’s been lovely seeing them all moving in and helping each other out. They’re a perfect example of good neighbours and we hope they go on to live at Westfield Rise for another 20 years.”

John continued: “I’ve been back and fore mowing the lawn for them in preparation and we’re planning a big house warming. It’s made us even closer - we all finish each other’s sentences.

“The Parkers and us look after each other’s gardens and if I’m outside cutting the grass it can take me hours because we’re all chatting.

And he insists that there hasn’t been one cross word between the neighbours in all those years of living at such close quarters.

“We’ve never fallen out, and I honestly don’t think we ever will,” he said.

“We’re friends for life, when the others told us they wanted to live here too, it was like we’d won the lottery.”

Bellway’s Westfield Rise is an exclusive development of just 24 modern, detached three and four-bedroom family homes. The development is conveniently located for transport links with easy accessibility to the M4 to Cardiff and beyond as well as being less than two miles from Newport railway station.

The price of the two remaining properties is £239,995 so; this is the last chance for potential buyers to secure a home at the site.
