Local construction students learn first hand on Bellway’s Edison Fields site

Students working towards a Diploma in joinery and carpentry at Harrogate College recently took the opportunity to visit Bellway’s Edison Fields development on Netherfield Road in Guiseley to see for them selves the real world of the construction industry and learn the ropes of site management.

Aged from 17 and 18, the students were given a tour of Edison Fields by Site Manager Graham Brook who was on hand to pass on his experience in the construction industry and especially his know-how when it comes to keeping people safe on-site.

The 10 students who visited the site are studying for their Diploma qualification, which aims to develop the skills and knowledge students need to progress into a professional career within the construction industry and the visit was a welcome and useful addition to an already varied and interesting course.

Graham Brook, Bellway’s Site Manager, commented, "It's great to see local students taking such an active interest in the construction industry, and it was really our pleasure to invite them to Edison Fields.

"We'd all like to wish the students the very best of luck with their studies, and we thoroughly hope they succeed in this vibrant industry."

Graham Oddy Course Lecturer at Harrogate College commented: "The visit was a great success and it gave the students an opportunity to consolidate their knowledge of construction into a real life situation.

"Following a health and safety induction, the students were able to look around the site and meet and talk with Bellway’s site workers and view various houses in different stages of construction. They all agreed that the visit was thoroughly worth while and had real value for their course. We are all very grateful for Bellway’s input.”
